Memorial Garden

A WALK IN THE GARDEN

From earliest times, it has been customary for Christians to be buried in or near the church. At Christ Church, we continue the tradition with our Memorial Garden. Offering an alternative to present day burial practices, the Garden provides a common burial site where ashes of parishioners, their immediate families and others with special ties to Christ Church may be interred.

It is beautifully landscaped with small shrubs and ground cover to provide greenery year around.  Plantings of seasonal flowers  provide a touch of color in a most traditional way.  The name of the deceased, year of birth and death are installed on a memorial plaque on the south wall of the garden and on a similar plaque in the church

A beautiful piece of sculpture, replete with wonderful symbols of the faith: the cross, the fish, the  dcending dove, the Holy Child, alpha and omega , the lamb , Crown of Thorns, and the jester holding the keys of Peter.  Called the "Pilgramage", this sculpture and the figure of the Risen Christ in our church was executed by M Pamela Morrison.

Since the Garden was consecrated in 1992, there have more than 200 interments.  Each year teams of volunteers called "Layweeders" work to maintain the beauty of the Garden during the growing season.

Just a quiet walk in the Menorial Garden and thoughtful tour of the paths in the Labyrinth told me Spring is here.  I saw tiny tulips poking up their heads in the garden and invasive weeds in the labyrinth.

Now is the time to plan the care of the garden and labyrinth.

If you would like to volunteer as a gardening team member of the "Law Weeders" or the "Weed Wackers" notify the office or Doug Brim. He will put the teams together and send out team clean up assignments that will probably begin in June.

As you look about, the notice the early Spring tulips have come up and bit more and that duet of color will soon  burst on the scene.  Just as important see the large new memorial plaque that has been installed.

did you manage to log on as an admin? by clicking on the link in the FAQ: http://christchurchdearborn.org/admin
clicking on this link should open a new browser and then you log in using your admin username and password (ask the office about that if it doesn't work right for you!)

assuming you get in...
there is a drop down menu called "Manage Content" in the very top right corner, chose the option called SITE PAGES. then you click edit next to whichever page you are editing.

in terms of adding pictures...
it is kind of confusing at first but i figured it out now...

under page content you click on the icon with the mountain horizon on it called "insert/edit image". this takes you to a screen called "image properties" that i actually don't understand, but next you click browse server, which opens up the "image library".

at the top of the "image library" is a box to upload a file, click browse and you will actually get to browse your computer for the image. choose an image, upload it, then scroll down through image library and click on the image name. (this will then take you back to the page you are editing and the "image properties" box.

you can modify the width/height of the image by changing the numbers in the box, luckily they remain proportional to each other! then click ok and you should have an image added to your content.

hopefully this helps and answers your question...
if not i guess we have a very long and extensive answer to refer back to if anyone else gets stuck!
