Celebrating the Retirement of five of our Altar Guild members

Anyone who is interested is encouraged to join our guild. We are men and women who range in age from 17 to 80-some years young.

We work behind the scenes to dress the Altar, to make our worship a beautiful and moving experience. The beautiful and the stark: it’s all a part of what we do.

We all come together to make palm crosses for Palm Sunday, always a large project, so that everyone in our congregation has a hand made palm cross.

We care for the vestments, baptismal fonts, and oversee their proper cleaning and maintenance.

We buy candles, wine, communion wafers and replacement items with money from your donations of flowers for our services, memorials and gifts, which we then deliver to shutins and others when their service at church is over.

The guild meets four times a year.

In the hour before church begins the altar guild sets the altar, these are signs of the community preparing for worship.

The altar guild is one of our most important ministries. We have several teams of women, men, and young adults who come early to set up the altar for our worship. They prepare the vessels, the wine, wafers, and bread. They light the candles, and set out worship bulletins, and clean up afterward. Their work is ordinary, as one person said; “It’s just washing dishes,” which is correct. Aside from learning the technical names of items and their placement, it is not hard work. It is, however sacred work, caring for Christ’s table.
